Fall Pics...a good deal late...

So, life happens, and I apologize for the fact that I can't keep up with my posts of late. I will try and do better in the future. Consider that a new year's resolution of mine, I guess. :) But anyway, here are pics from our Fall Festival at church (we were supposed to dress up old fashioned, so I made Little Bit and me a patchwork skirt and head scarf from a pattern in Sandi Henderson's Sewing Bits and Pieces.)

The other pics are from Halloween. I didn't make Little Bit's cotume. Rather it was my witch costume my mother made me when I was a little girl. I did get her the cool striped tights and a new hat, as my old hat had long since succombed to moth food. And I painted her face with Ben Nye's Lumiere Palette ...left over from my stash of stage makeup from way back when. (And it is, by far, the most AWESOME stuff to paint faces for Halloween. Once you've tried real stage makeup, the stuff they carry at the costume stores just won't do it for you any more...) I also have the plain color one, too. Not that I love Halloween or anything... :)

I did, however, make the boys' costumes. I painted glow in the dark spider webs on black sweats, and crocheted little spider web/spider hats, and little spider amigurumi to go on their clothes. They, too, had to have their faces painted. Of course.

All in all, it was a very lovely, fun Halloween! I will try and not wait until January to post next year's pics!

Queen Bee

I couldn't think of anything to be for Halloween this year...at least that I had the time and money to invest into. :) I would have loved to have been Alice from the new movie, but there was no way I had that kind of extra money to put into a costume I'd wear once, maybe twice, nor did I have the time to invest in making it. So...Martha Stewart came in handy this year. This was on her show, and I thought..."HEY! I can do that!" It was cool, because it wasn't hard (but very time consuming), and it wouldn't scare the kids (vampires are out for now), and VERY cheap. :) Cheap is good. I had forgotten I even had this yarn leftover, so that was a plus. :)

I will say this, though...the first picture was taken before the rest of my makeup, and the second one after our Fall Festival at church AND trick or treating, so my bees are looking a little tired and sad in THAT one. shrug. Should have taken a better picture BEFORE leaving, huh?

NOTE: No, I do not have jaundice. LOL I have yellow sparkle fairy dust (Ben Nye Stage Makeup...gotta' love it!) on for "pollen" but it doesn't show up very well in the hallway where we took the picture. Not the best lighting, but it was too dark outside to do pics.

They're Supposed to Be Bees...

But do they look like them? (Though by looking, I can easily see which ones were the first and which ones were the last ones I made...the last ones look better. LOL)

This is my attempt at part of Halloween costume that is to be continued...

Chocolate Owls

I love Halloween. I mean, REALLY love Halloween. There's just something about it that really gets me happy. Part of it is the weather. I am totally a FALL girl, so I love bright plump pumpkins and brilliantly colored leaves everywhere. I love the crunch it makes when you walk on them, the cool breeze blowing. Blue jean weather, I call it. And I love it!!! Add to that my love of dressing up I've had since a kid and an unsatiable addiction to all things chocolate, and you can see how this is an amazingly fun holiday for me. :) I generally decorate the whole house, though I've had to scale back now that I have small children...hard to put out breakables when you have a little boy who thinks he's supposed to throw everything. But still, it's just so much FUN!!! And one more thing I enjoy...making treats. :) There's just something about fall weather that sets me in baking mode, and I want to make EVERYTHING. Not a great thing when you're on a diet, but very hard to fight this baking urge I get...which is why we had cupcakes at 10:00 at night two nights ago...

And though it isn't baking, I have found a new fun pasttime in making chocolate lollipops for the kids. Little Bit LOVES them. I have to limit her, else she eat the whole batch in one sitting!!! (That's my girl! She gets it honest!!!) But I was quite happy with how they turned out, esp. since I forgot to buy a paint brush to do the little details... oops. Still, they turned out rather nice, and very tasty! And super easy to do, really! I'm going to have to get some turkey molds or something for next month, though I suppose owls can be a whole fall thing, hmm?
